This gift-giver is taking back what they gave. It's an unusual tactic, but given the circumstances, this person felt it was warranted!

Giving a present and then taking it back is the kind of thing you do as a toddler, not as an adult! Once you wrap something up in wrapping paper and bows and give it away, it's no longer yours to revoke. You've already done your part, put a smile on that person's face, and moved on with your day. But this person felt especially scorned by a relative who didn't even bother to get them a present.
